COLEOPTERA II: TITANUS
Coleoptera II: Titanus is a hand-printed linocut from the Coleoptera series, inspired by the giant stag beetle (Dorcus titanus). The design was drawn using reference material and developed as a study of the form of beetles, with particular attention to graphic pattern and anatomical structure. The print translates small, intricate natural forms into bold black-and-white compositions through relief printing.
The work does not aim for complete anatomical precision. Instead, it embraces interpretation and stylization as part of the process of translation. Minor deviations from strict accuracy are intentional, reflecting both the natural variation found in living systems and the presence of the human hand in the work.
The design is transferred to a linoleum block and carved entirely by hand. Each print is pulled from the original carved block using professional oil-based relief ink. The design is printed on cold press, textured paper made from recycled cotton with a natural deckle edge. Variations in ink density, surface texture, and edge are an inherent result of the hand-printing process and are considered part of the work.
This print is part of a limited edition of 100 impressions. Once the edition is complete, the block will not be reprinted.
